Indian Apparel Manufacturers Eye Global Expansion Through Diaspora-Centric Exhibitions
New Delhi, Dec 21, Indian apparel manufacturers are eyeing international markets with significant diaspora populations, such as Australia, the US, and the UK, to host exhibitions and expand their presence.
Rahul Mehta, chief mentor of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), emphasized the need to expose domestic brands to global markets, starting with regions where the Indian diaspora is substantial.
The recent success of the “Brands of India” exhibition in Dubai, featuring 350 domestic brands, has fueled plans for similar cycles in Dubai and expansion to other markets. Mehta highlighted that Indian brands encompass not only ethnic wear but also alternatives, making them powerful contenders in global markets.
The CMAI collaborated with various associations for the Dubai exhibition, attracting interest from wholesalers, retailers, distributors, e-commerce platforms, and departmental chains. The apparel industry is anticipated to play a vital role in boosting India’s ready-made garment exports to the Middle East.
