China-Pakistan Textile Summit Boosts Collaboration in the Era of Silk Road E-commerce

In a significant collaborative stride, the China-Pakistan Textile and Apparel Executive Summit and Business Meetings recently unfolded in Kunshan, East China’s Jiangsu Province, gathering over 100 representatives from both Chinese and Pakistani governments, trade associations, and textile enterprises. The summit holds particular importance in 2023, marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the initiation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Deputy Mayor of Kunshan, Zhang Feng, emphasized the substantial cooperation results achieved through CPEC, especially in the textile and apparel sector, where there is evident complementarity and collaboration potential between the two nations. Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries, Gohar Ejaz, underscored Pakistan’s textile strength, citing favorable conditions for cotton production, a competitive workforce, and comprehensive industrial capabilities.

A notable development during the summit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCT) and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, aiming to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the textile industries of both nations. Additionally, discussions around the “Silk Road e-commerce” model emerged, offering global consumers a convenient, efficient, and low-cost platform for goods and services.

The release of the “Action Plan for Advancing the Construction of the Silk Road E-commerce Cooperation Pilot Zone in Pudong New Area” by the government of Pudong, Shanghai, further solidifies the commitment to promoting Silk Road e-commerce as a cutting-edge business model. This initiative seeks to enhance digital economic cooperation along the Belt and Road, fostering diverse global trade through the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Silk Road e-commerce.
