This innovative technology utilizes product metadata and imagery to automatically create more comprehensive and accurate product descriptions. While Matalan’s team of copywriters will continue to provide oversight, ensuring a human touch, the introduction of GenAI is expected to significantly improve search engine optimization, conversion rates, and operational efficiency. The tool is projected to deliver a fourfold increase in productivity.

Ali Jones, Chief Customer and Omnichannel Officer at Matalan, expressed excitement about being the first UK retailer to leverage Generative AI in this manner. The move aligns with Matalan’s commitment to customer-centric experiences and forms a crucial part of the company’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

By embracing innovative technologies like Generative AI, Matalan aims to stay at the forefront of the industry, providing customers with richer information about its product range, whether they are shopping on the website or through the Matalan app. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader business transformation efforts, marking a significant step forward in enhancing the online retail experience.
